Intensive Therapy and Education in Special Classes

For many children, their severe emotional and behavioral problems make it impossible for them to thrive in a mainstream classroom.  Yet in many instances the challenges they face are not so extreme as to require them to be cared for in a 24 hour residential facility.

Eighty such children receive the mental health services they need through East Bay Agency for Children’s six day treatment style programs and two counseling enriched classrooms which serve children from pre-school through 12th grade.  These programs’ goal is to provide intensive mental health and special educational services to ultimately transition these children into mainstream school classrooms or less intensive special education.

EBAC staff and therapists work side by side with educators in these special day treatment classrooms to provide these students the skills they need to manage their emotional and behavioral challenges so they can learn and thrive and be successful in school and in life.

"EBAC provides a safety net for the students who are most at risk of failure, catching kids who typically fall through the cracks. EBAC is very good at addressing whatever is distressing them and looking at how those stressors affect their ability to succeed in school." Barbara McClung
