Mental Health Clinician – Bilingual English/Spanish

With a staff of 150 and 200 volunteers, we serve 21, 000 children, youth and families via primarily school based programs throughout Alameda County.

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following dynamic position:

Mental Health Clinician – Bilingual English/Spanish

A. FUNCTION

As member of the clinical team the Mental Health Clinician provides skilled clinical services to children and their families; perform assessments, articulate diagnostic formulations and make recommendations; provide case work services and make referrals; act as consultant to teachers, school support staff, school administrators, and community partners; preparation and presentation of safety and violence material in a classroom setting; and related work as required.

Responsibilities include individual and group counseling in English and Spanish, case management, consultation and related duties. Interested candidates must have experience providing psychotherapeutic and casework services to youth and families in a multi-cultural environment. Positions are available in Oakland, Hayward and Fremont. Mental Health Clinicians are placed at school sites.

Licensure supervision provided. Bi-lingual fluency in English and Spanish in written and verbal communications is required.

B. QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in a mental health discipline and working toward licensure required.
• Two years post-Master’s experience in clinical work with children, groups and family therapy.
• Sensitivity to the needs and life circumstances of inner city low income communities.
• Experience in school based social work or prior teaching experience.
• Ability to work as a TEAM member and contribute to program development.
• Ability and willingness to maintain clear and complete records, meet deadlines for written reports, and compile and report monthly statistics.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish are required.

C. RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide individual, group and family counseling in English and Spanish.
• Provide consultation to teachers, school support staff, site administrators and community partners on a variety of topics including child development, behavior management, learning styles of children, and various mental health considerations.
• Complete comprehensive child/family assessment, formulate diagnostic picture, and communicate recommendations to school and family.
• Planning and delivery of presentation on safety and violence issues to children, youth and adults.
• Provide case work services for children and families, making home visits and outside referrals when necessary.
• Participate as member of the CAP Training Center Team and contribute to program development and planning.
• Case presentation at clinical team meetings.
• Participate in core team meetings at Target schools. Maintain charts, treatment plans, termination summaries, monthly statistic report and other reports as required.
• Supervise Para-professional, volunteers and interns as program demands.
• Other duties as assigned.

D. WORKING CONDITIONS and JOB SETTING

• Headquarters is in a multi-story building with stair that need to be climbed to access other floors.
• Work is primarily in a classroom setting.
• Because work is directly with children, full mobility is required for standing, walking, sitting, using hands, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• High noise levels at times.
• May need to use child-size chairs for sitting.
• Periodic lifting up to 25 pounds is required.
• Work is in school locations in San Lorenzo, Hayward and Fremont, with routine driving required.
