Lead Child Teacher

Open Position: Lead Teacher-First 5, Hawthorne Family Resource Center
East Bay Agency for Children (EBAC) is dedicated to the health and educational well-being of children and families through specialized therapeutic, educational and peer support services.
With a staff of 150 and 200 volunteers, we serve 19,000 children, youth and families via 13 primarily school based programs throughout Alameda County
We are currently seeking a customer Lead Teacher.

Title: Lead Child Teacher
Accountability: Parent Child Educator-Coordinator

A. FUNCTIONS
The Hawthorne Family Resource Center (HFRC), a program of East Bay Agency for Children (EBAC), operates educational and family support programs at World and Achieve Academies. EBAC is seeking a Lead Teacher for its newest program funded through First 5 Alameda County: Little Steps to College. This program prepares preschool-age children and their families for Kindergarten and school success. Outreach will particularly be targeted towards Mam (indigenous Guatemalan) and Latino families.

The Lead Teacher will work collaboratively with the Parent Child Educator Coordinator and HFRC team to effectively implement program through: family and child literacy activities, provision of one-on-one consultations and screenings, outreach, and assisting with evaluation. The Lead Teacher is also responsible for assist in setting up the learning environment, modeling best ECE practices, and providing training while interacting with parents, supervising teaching assistant and interpreter, implementing program policies and overseeing all aspects of the daily routine.

Four days per week, the Lead Teacher will work with up 12 parent-child pairs, along with an Assistant Teacher and Mam Interpreter, in the classroom from 8:30-11:30 a.m. There will be one hour of preparation time daily and weekly staff meetings with the team.

Please note that this is a 30 week position in 2011-2012; 39 weeks in 2012-2013. In 2011-2012, the first session begins in January and ends in March. The second session begins in April and end in June. Each session is 12 weeks.

B. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master Teacher Child Development Permit, including 24 units ECE and 12 units GE
  • 3 years teaching experience in an Early Childhood Education Program
  • Experience in a Parent Co-op or program with active parent participation highly desirable
  • Experience in assisting with program/project start-ups desirable
  • Ability to provide strong leadership
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team in a diverse environment
  • Fluently bilingual English/Spanish required

C. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement, facilitate, and supervise group and individual activities, transitions between activities, and all aspects of the daily routine with a strong base of understanding that the focus is on parent-child bonding/relationship.
  • Directing staff and parents to observe and interact with the children, and facilitating staffing situations that will best promote safety and smooth programming.
  • Document daily progress notes and observations on children.
  • Facilitate the smooth functioning of the program regarding maintaining cleanliness (including the oversight and completion of daily and weekly clean-up tasks), order, and stocking of supplies. This includes, but is not limited to: maintaining a clean and safe kitchen and milieu, including all areas accessible to the children, assuring compliance with all Community Care Licensing Health and Safety regulations (e.g., assuring all chemical products are locked up and not accessible to the children, and outlets are blocked with safety blockers).
  • Keep track of program supplies requested by teaching staff or store these supplies as appropriate. Shop for supplies as approved by Program Director. Assist Program Director with tracking expenses as requested by funder.
  • Enact outreach with community programs and professionals to increase numbers of referrals, as needed.
  • Keep track of sign-in/sign-out files, complete daily attendance recordings and submit this to Parent Child Educator-Coordinator
  • Other duties as assigned.

D. HOURS AND DAYS

Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
